Dance Class Styles
First Footers Dance classes involve several styles from Modern Street Dance to Traditional Ballet. See below for information about some of the dance styles that are taught in the studio:
Street Dance
Street Dance is a broad term used to describe dance styles that have evolved outside of traditional dance classes.
It incorporates hip-hop, disco, jazz and freestyle dance, it encourages individuality and originality, allowing dancers to invent and explore new movement styles.
The free nature of Street Dance allows individuals to express themselves freely to the pop music of the day. It can be danced solo, in pairs and in groups and covers a wide range of rhythms and techniques.
Street Dance is a fun and creative way of keeping fit. It is an inclusive dance form so everyone can take part. So why not come along and give it a try!
Jazz
Jazz has become one of the most popular dance styles in recent years, mainly due to its popularity on television shows, movies, music videos and commercials. People enjoy watching jazz dancers, as the dancing is fun and energetic.
Jazz dancing is a form of dance that showcases a dancer's individual style and originality. Every jazz dancer interprets and executes moves and steps in their own way. Jazz dancing is energetic and fun, consisting of unique moves, fancy footwork, big leaps and quick turns. To excel in jazz, dancers need a strong background in Ballet, as it encourages grace and balance.
ISTD Imperial Classical Ballet
The Ballet syllabi at ISTD have been carefully developed in order to provide a fully comprehensive training both for children and young adults who wish to dance for pleasure and for those interested in a professional training and, therefore, wishing to study for the major Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate, Advanced 1 and Advanced 2 examinations.
Visit the Imperial Classical Ballet Faculty website for more information.
ISTD Modern Theatre
Modern Theatre Dance defies a single permanent definition. This is largely due to its ability to adapt, develop and evolve with the changing fashion in dance.
Through a carefully planned and well-tried examination syllabus, which combines modern dance, jazz and other dance styles, young people are trained to become disciplined and versatile dancers who have a professional attitude towards dance.
Visit the Imperial Modern Theatre Faculty website for further information.
